Material variety

Silicon carbide has black silicon carbide and green silicon carbide two commonly used basic varieties, all belong to α-SiC. ① Black silicon carbide containing SiC about 95%, its toughness is higher than green silicon carbide, mostly used for processing low tensile strength materials, such as glass, ceramics, stone, refractory materials, cast iron and non-ferrous metals.

Material property

Pure silicon carbide is colorless and transparent crystal. Industrial silicon carbide because of the impurities contained in different types and content, and is light yellow, green, blue and black, transparency varies with its purity.

craftsmanship

Because the natural content is very little, silicon carbide is mainly man-made. The common method is to mix quartz sand with coke, use the silica and petroleum coke, add salt and wood chips, put in the electric furnace, heated to about 2000°C high temperature, after a variety of chemical processes to get silicon carbide powder.
